The number one mistake beginner Amazon sellers make — not comparing data

Hello. This is Bopyo. Amazon Prime Day is coming soon. How often do you currently look at your advertising data on Amazon?

Do you know what the most common mistake is among people selling products on Amazon, especially beginner sellers? It's "not comparing data." Are you running ads right now? Then let me ask one question. "Are you running your ads well right now?" If you can answer this confidently, you are a seller who is tracking data well. But if you hesitated even for a moment, I recommend you read this post to the end.

Why is comparing data important?

Amazon selling is a continuous process of optimization. Every day we make big and small decisions.

· Changed the main image
· Adjusted ad bids
· Added new keywords
· Reduced price by 5%
· Updated A+ content

Yet too often we cannot answer the most important question — "So did it have an effect?" If you changed the image, you must check whether CTR (click-through rate) went up or down. If you created a new ad campaign, you need to know whether ACOS is improving or worsening. If you added a keyword, you should check whether that keyword is actually contributing to sales. If you don't track the "changes" of these metrics, you are essentially making decisions by gut feeling.

Limits of Seller Central

The problem starts here. Amazon Seller Central shows current metrics, but it does not automatically compare "changes now versus a previous period." Of course, you can download reports and compare them in Excel yourself. But to be honest, can you repeat that task every week or every month? Most sellers can't. They don't have the time, Excel work is tedious, and they end up stopping at "feels good / feels bad." A month goes by, two months go by, and eventually questions pile up like "When did my ACOS get this high?" or "Why aren't sales growing?" Ad spend keeps going out, though.

Solution: SellerVisor Campaign & Keyword Performance

What we built to solve this problem is SellerVisor's "Campaign & Keyword Performance" page. The usage is very simple.

Step 1. Log in to SellerVisor
Step 2. Go to the "Campaign & Keyword Performance" menu
Step 3. Set the period you want to compare (1 day / 7 days / 14 days / 30 days) Step 4. The data is automatically compared as "previous period vs current period" That's all. No Excel, no formulas, no extra work required.

Key metrics visible at a glance

On the Campaign & Keyword Performance page, the following metrics are automatically compared and shown as "previous period vs current".

· Sales — whether sales are increasing or decreasing
· Profit — how actual profit is changing
· ACOS — whether ad efficiency is improving
· Purchases — whether the number of purchases has increased or decreased
· Cost — trend of ad spend
· Clicks — change in click traffic
· Impressions — impression trend
· CTR — check the effect of image/title changes
· Conv% — check the effect of listing page optimization
· Avg CPC — check the result of bid adjustments Each metric is shown with a percentage change and up/down arrows, with improving metrics in green and worsening metrics in red for immediate identification.

Practical use scenarios

[Scenario 1] When changing the main image → Set the period as 7 days before the image change vs 7 days after the change → Check in one line whether CTR went up or down → If effective, keep it; if not, roll it back immediately

[Scenario 2] When launching a new ad campaign → Compare 30 days before launch vs 30 days after launch → Check how ACOS changed and whether the sales increase justifies the increase in ad spend

[Scenario 3] After adjusting bids to check effects → Compare 14 days before and after adjustment → Evaluate changes in CPC, conversion rate, and ACOS comprehensively → Establish the next bid strategy based on data [Scenario 4] Price reduction test → 7 days before the reduction vs 7 days after → Check simultaneously that conversion rate rose but how margin was affected

For those already using SellerVisor

To connect, log in to SellerVisor, click the gear icon (Settings) on the right, select Settings (Ads, Language, Newsletter). Then connect your ad account under Connect Ads API and click Save.

In closing

The core of today's post can be summarized in one sentence. "If you don't compare, you cannot improve." Whether it's ad campaigns, main images, or pricing policy — if you don't track changes, you can't know whether the decision was correct. If you don't know, your next decisions will also be made by gut feeling. SellerVisor's Campaign & Keyword Performance automates that comparison. No Excel, no formulas, no repetitive weekly drudgery required. With two clicks, you can see in numbers "whether I'm doing well." From today, decide based on data, not gut feeling.
